The Two Molinillo Sizes at a Glance

Globe Rocket makes its Handmade Molinillo in two sizes — Large and Small — and both are hand-turned from a single piece of hardwood by the same artisans in Central Mexico. The construction, carving, and material are identical between them; only the length and head diameter change. Here's how the two compare side by side:

Which Size Should You Choose?

Since both sizes share the same construction, the decision comes down to what you actually whisk it in and how many people you're usually serving.

Quick answer: Choose the Large if you typically make hot chocolate, champurrado, or atole in a pot, pitcher, or clay jarro for more than one person. Choose the Small if you usually whisk a single mug or small pot for yourself.

Note: A few Small-molinillo buyers have mentioned it runs smaller than they pictured — it's genuinely sized for a mug or small pot, not a full pitcher. When in doubt between sizes, measure your usual vessel rather than guessing from the size name alone.

Large vs. Small: Same Craftsmanship, Different Scale

Neither size is objectively “better” — a larger molinillo doesn't froth more effectively or last longer than a smaller one. Both are turned from the same single piece of hardwood, with the same free-spinning carved rings and hand-carving process. The Large simply has more reach for bigger batches; the Small is more proportioned for whisking a single serving. To understand how that carving and frothing action works regardless of size, see our What Is a Molinillo? guide and How to Use a Molinillo guide.

Whichever size fits your kitchen, both are built for the same traditional drinks — Mexican hot chocolate and champurrado among them.
